Most of my adult life, I had been frustrated with my health and appearance. I was tipping the scales at a whopping 338 lbs. My joints were aching and I had very little energy. I have three young children and I was disappointed with myself for the example I was making for them. I found myself always being depressed and tired. The unhealthy lifestyle that I was living was indirectly causing strains on my marriage and family life. I wasn’t a very good father or husband most of the time.

I’m a high school teacher and football coach by profession. In late spring of 2008, I interviewed for a head coaching job and I felt like my appearance had a lot to do with me not getting the job.
